Why do people go to therapy?
Some people come into therapy fully aware of a problem and simply need help in sorting through the issues. Others have a vague notion of something wrong and ask for help in clarifying the problem. When you enter into therapy, you set out on a journey that has the potential to change your entire outlook on life.
What would we talk about?
Our discussion can touch on any number of topics, such as family dynamics, current relationships, coping strategies, challenging past experiences, and exploring the many avenues for personal growth and renewal.
How often will I need to come?
Some people need to meet only a few times to resolve an issue, while others opt for more in depth work over a longer time period. Sessions can be scheduled during the day, in the evening, or on the weekend.
What is the fee?
My fee is $80 for a 45-50 minute individual session and $110 for a 60 minute Couple or Family session. I accept cash, credit card via Pay Pal, and check. I believe that an individual's therapy is their own, not an insurance company’s. I am not in-network, don’t participate in managed care plans, and don’t accept assignment of benefits. That means you pay me directly and can submit for reimbursement if you choose. However, before deciding to use your insurance, please consider the following:
Confidentiality: Managed care plans often require detailed information about you and the problem you need help with. That information is not protected.
Control of Treatment: Your insurance company—not you or I—will decide if treatment is “medically necessary” and how much of it you may receive.
Psychiatric Diagnosis: Insurance requires a psychiatric diagnosis that becomes part of your record.
As a licensed Mental Health Counselor, my services usually do qualify for patient reimbursement under most plans. My fees are generally considered within the “usual and customary” range (UCR), but please check with the company in advance. If you wish to submit for reimbursement, I will provide you with a receipt for services provided.
New Yorkers that worked in or around the World Trade Center on September 11th, or family members who lost a loved one, may be eligible for mental health benefits through The September 11th fund. Call 1-800-Lifenet for more information.
What about my Confidentiality concerns?
Clients often ask questions about how their rights as consumers of mental health services will be protected by the therapist and by applicable State and Federal laws. There is legal privilege in the State of New York protecting the confidentiality of the private information you share with me. As a licensed and certified professional, I strive to maintain the strictest ethical standards of confidentiality. Your privacy is important and is guarded with all legal limits. If you have questions about the limits of confidentiality, I will be glad to respond either by phone or in person.
